Ground Beef on a cut?
Well I've been reading a few old threads on ground beef on a cut and got mixed answers. I plan to buy the leanest kind of ground beef and make them into patties would it be fine or no on a cut? From what i've read i shouldn't really be eating it more than 2-3 times a week, but if thats the cause then should i even be eating them at all?
also i was considering ground turkey would that be the healthier choice but is it also suitable for a cut and whats the taste difference ?

It's perfectly fine. I try to get 95% lean and 5% fat or maybe I get 93/7, either way, it's fine but far more costly. You can also look into chicken, tuna, turkey and other lean meats besides ground beef. Don't go too crazy on the amounts though because those calories add up all the same.Originally Posted by FelixT

I'd be willing to say that 95% of people on this forum accomplish nothing in years, don't be one of those people. It's sad, they seem to have the knowledge many don't but can't utilize it.

ground chicken is a very good option, depending on what your using it for it taste just as good if not better then ground beef. i use it when i make homemade chilli and i find it taste so much better although it clumps and seperates different then ground beef so i dont know how well patties would turn out

ground turkey is great. i use it for meatballs or for taco meat or turkeyt burgers. tastes almost identical and has way less caloric density

If you use sauces and what not, like taco seasoning or manwich, you won't really taste a difference between ground turkey and ground beef but if you eat it more plainly, like in a patty, there is a noticeable difference. Still, it's not necessarily a bad difference.

ground beef is a great thing to eat on a cut as long as its lean meat of course. its really high on protein and has no carbs and carbs is the main thing you should be concerned about on a cut, so eat up!Originally Posted by FelixT

careful with the ground turkey, I've seen some packages that are actually a mix of white and dark meat, with far more fat than lean ground beef.

Correct me if I'm wrong..... but the fat content of our diet is a major concern for the health of our circulatory system, we're concerned about cholesterol, and build up in our veins correct?
In an 18 year old.... does it really matter? Are we just trying to build healthy habits for the future?
Our bodies breakdown Turkey, Beef, Lettuce, the same way, right?

good point. anyways just got back from my grocery store and there were only three types of ground beef. Medium, lean, and extra lean none saying 95/5 maybe cause im in canada? So i just took down the nutritional facts of the extra lean one.
per 1/2 cup (100 g)
calories 100
fat 8 g 12%
saturated 3.5g + trans 0.4g 20%
sodium 60 mg 3%
carbs 1g 1%
fibre 0
sugar 0
protein 20 gnow would this be the 95/5 one becuase it doesn't really seem like it and i asked the store guy is this the leanest one they have and they said it is.

I ate it everyday for 2 years to lose fat. Of course I used the 96%.
I made patties out of it, grilled them up and had a burger.
Just count for the calories and your fine.
Dont count the calories and you are in for trouble.

I live on the stuff. I buy the 98% fat free. 1/4 lb has 140 calories and 22g protein. I couldn't be without my beef, but I do eat a lot of chicken breast and tuna also.

Uhh I don't know man. Do you mean raw? There's a lot of bacteria and stuff in ground beef and it might infect your cut. I wouldn't do it.

Not sure what you are asking. I don't see why ground beef would be a problem on a cut. There are no carbs in it. Just watch your calories and you should be fine. I have lost weight eating it almost everyday. There are just different grades of beef based on the fat content.

Grill it, and don't worry about it. all the fat will drop out, your pattie will just be smaller than a 95%-98% pattie.

Some people wash ground beef before using it, though I think that is a little odd. I usually just drain it after cooking. Actually, I think I'll make some beef cabbage soup tonight.
Short term Goal: To cut back before bulking like a demon.
Mid term Goal: To find myself.
Long term Goal: To get what's mine.67 lbs in 9 years and still counting... (started at 100lbs)
